Local Crime Watch Report

Compiled by Deborah Stone from Woodinville Police reports

Shoplifting attempt thwarted
Oct. 4: The loss prevention officer at a store in the 13000 block of NE 178th Place observed a man taking two DVDs from the electronic department. Officer watched as the man walked over to the home department and stopped to conceal the merchandise under his sweatshirt. He then passed by the store’s front registers and headed for the front doors without stopping to pay for the DVDs. Loss prevention officer contacted the man, brought him to his office and subsequently called the police. Suspect was arrested for 3rd degree theft.

Sign swap
Sept. 30: Complainant spotted white male in his mid-forties removing three of the complainant’s political signs from the street and placing them in his dark colored, newer model Chevrolet Suburban. Later the complainant noticed three more of his political signs missing at a different location. In their place were now new signs promoting a different political candidate. Suspect was last seen heading east on Woodinville-Duvall Rd.

Vandalism and fire
Oct. 6: A light post at an apartment complex off of 142nd Ave NE was damaged and caught fire. The witness, who lived in the building, heard a group of possible juveniles hollering and when he looked outside, he saw the light pole down and on fire. He went outside and put out the fire, but was unable to get any descriptions of the perpetrators, as they had fled the scene. Damage was to the top glass dome and bulb. No known suspects at this time.

Oct. 3, Duvall: While police were looking for the driver of a vehicle in the ditch, she returned to the scene of the crime and got her reward: DUI.

Oct. 3, Carnation: Rules of the road when towing a trailer: make sure it’s securely attached to your vehicle. Otherwise, while traveling on the highway, at highway speed, hitting those bumps in the road between Carnation and Duvall, it might come detached. This driver won’t likely make this mistake twice. Fortunately, the trailer headed for the ditch, not the other lane.

Oct. 4, Duvall: After driving at a high rate of speed in the wrong lane, this intoxicated man was given a room with a view … through bars.

Oct. 5, Duvall: Apparently, this driver was lost, and thought Manion was the speedway. Officer found the driver and car, and the driver earned a special paper, just for speeders.

Oct. 5, Duvall:Theft attempt. Police are investigating.

Oct. 5, Carnation: Tylenol will not be the drug of choice for this person who had an allergic reaction and needed medical care. Police were also on the scene to verify there was no criminal activity.

Oct. 7, Carnation: Apparently this driver misunderstood the “disabled parking” sign and thought it said “5 minute parking” because that was his excuse for parking there. He then learned a new word: NOW. As in move it NOW.
