The
Sammamish Valley Grange is a local one, part
of a nationwide farmers’ organization,
formed right after the Civil War. Many good
accomplishments were done by them: Free mail
delivery, the Sherman Anti-Trust Act, regulating
the operations of corporate trusts, or conspiring
of trade or commerce among several states,
or foreign nations, enacted in 1890.
The Grange
in our state is responsible in part for
the Columbia River dams and irrigation
available, the P.U.D., the original formation
of Group Health. A member of Sammamish
Valley Grange (lawyer Jack Cluck) was on
the original
board.
Our Grange here has sponsored Little League
teams, 4-H, seeing eye-dog training, Little
Bit Therapy, scholarships, helped an Eagle
Scout go to an international convention in
Washington D.C., American Legion, boy and
girl go to State meeting in Ellensburg to
learn about how our government is run, dictionaries
to elementary 3rd graders, a reading incentive
program in the same elementary schools, summer
camp - free to those attending, learning
good citizenship and other activities, such
as games, beach combing, art, flag ceremony,
etc.
Grange is part of the Sammamish Valley Alliance,
formed by people interested in preserving
what is left in this valley for agriculture
and animal husbandry. The public is invited
to visit Grange on Wednesday, Oct. 17th at
7 p.m. to learn more about this organization.
An informative program is planned, followed
by refreshments.
