Cedarcrest High School has announced the results
from the 2007 administration of the Advanced
Placement Program Exams. The results reflect
incredible efforts of the AP students and staff
at Cedarcrest. Over the past few years, the
overall scores of the exams have been at a very
high level, and this year is no exception.
Approximately 1.4 million students took the
AP exams in May 2007 after completing challenging
college-level courses at their high schools.
AP Exams are assigned the following scores
after assessed by the College Board: 5 –
Extremely Well Qualified, 4 – Well Qualified,
3 – Qualified, 2 – Possible Qualified,
1 – No Recommendation.
With this scale, a score of 3 or better is
generally considered “passing” and
is often acceptable for college credit, advanced
placement, or both once these students attend
a post-secondary school.
Of the 54 exams taken at Cedarcrest in 2007,
45 of them earned a score of 3 or better. This
is an overall pass rate in all programs of 83
percent. This is an extremely impressive percentage
when you consider that the state composite average
is 14.4 percent and the national composite average
is 9 percent.
Additionally, Cedarcrest requires all students
enrolled in AP courses to take the exam at the
end of the year. Most high schools in the state
of Washington consider taking the exam to be
optional for students.
The three major program offerings at Cedarcrest
are English, Biology, and Calculus. The English
AP Program saw 24 of 27 students (89 percent)
earn a passing grade. 14 students were enrolled
in the Calculus program and 9 of those students
(64 percent) earned a passing grade.
Of special note is the Biology AP Program which
had all 9 students enrolled in the course earn
a score of 3 or better for a 100 percent pass
rate!
Four students from Cedarcrest High School have
earned the designation of AP Scholar by the
College Board in recognition of their exceptional
achievement on the AP Exams.
About 18 percent of students from the more
than 16,000 secondary schools worldwide who
took AP exams performed at a sufficiently high
level to merit the recognition of AP Scholar.
One student qualified for the AP Scholar with
Honor Award in 2007 by earning an average grade
of at least 3.25 on all AP Exams taken, and
grades of 3 or higher on four or more of these
exams. Three other students qualified for the
AP Scholar Award by completing three or more
AP exams, with grades of 3 or higher.
Congratulations to these students on their
remarkable achievements. Most of the nation’s
colleges and universities award credit, advanced
placement, or both based on successful performance
on the AP exams.
Success on these exams, and the programs in
which they were involved, has given these Cedarcrest
students a significant advantage as they begin
their post-secondary education.
