Historic barns are highly visible icons of King County’s heritage. Throughout the Snoqualmie Valley, barns embody distinctive elements of our rural landscape and community history. They convey both a sense of place and a record of traditional craftsmanship. But how many of these barns will still be standing in another 20 years?
The King County Historic Preservation Program has announced that applications are available for its second year supporting the rehabilitation of heritage barns.
Guidelines and application forms are posted on King County’s Web site at http://www.metrokc.gov/exec/bred/hpp/projects/barnAgain.htm. Applications are due on March 31, 2008.
A free public workshop about the application process will be held on Tuesday, February 26, 6:30-7:30 p.m. at the Carnation Public Library, 4804 Tolt Avenue.
Staff from King County will provide a step-by-step overview of the barn preservation program application process. Anyone interested in restoring their historic barn or learning about local efforts to preserve and document barns and agricultural history is invited to attend the workshop.
