The “Come On Let’s Grow!” art contest is officially over and according to organizer Mandy Cufley, the event was a resounding success.

Children in grades K-6 within the Northshore School District submitted a total of 212 pieces of artwork, far surpassing Cufley’s initial expectations for the number of entries. She says, “The community really pulled through and spread the word about the contest and we got great participation. And the quality of work was fabulous! The kids were really engaged in the theme.”

Main Street Project will revitalize Historic Duvall
by Lisa Allen

Artist’s rendering of completed Main Street Redevelopment Project.

Think pocket parks, art and wire-free skies.

Think Main Street in about a year.

By May 1 of 2009, the Main Street Redevelopment Project is expected to be completed. Artist renderings of the finished product show lovely and artistic spaces with lots of greenery, safer crosswalks and places for pedestrians to gather or sit outside.

The variety of enhancements, say city officials, are designed to showcase Historic Duvall (formerly Old Town) and make it more appealing to businesses and pedestrians. Safety is an issue as well, they say, with 13,000 cars a day using SR 203. Crossings and curb extensions will be added to all intersections and vehicle speeds are expected to be reduced with the addition of medians.
