Dr. William A. Gustafson

Dr. William A. Gustafson, a resident of Woodinville for 15 years, died suddenly on July 17 in Kirkland. He was 100 years old.
 
Dr. Gustafson served in the Pacific Theatre during WWII, ending his military service in Japan where he met and married Akiko, the love of his life. They were married for 58 years. Akiko O. Gustafson died in 2006 in Kirkland.
Dr. Gustafson received his Doctor of Education from Stanford University. He was superintendent of Orestimba Union High School District (Newman, CA) from 1958 to 1968, helping shepherd the building of a new high school campus inaugurated in 1961.  He was superintendent at Big Oak Flat-Groveland School District (Groveland, CA) for 15 years until he retired in 1983. He and his wife lived in Groveland, CA for 35 years.  He was a member of the South West Masonic Lodge #283 in California for 75 years.
 
In 2003, Dr. Gustafson and his wife moved to Woodinville, where they lived with their daughter Patricia Gustafson and her husband Roger Johnson.
 
Dr. Gustafson is survived by two sons, Albert Gustafson of Whidbey Island, WA, and Bill Gustafson, his wife and their two children, of Seattle; and a daughter, Patricia Gustafson and her husband, of Woodinville.
Memorial donations may be sent to Northshore Adult Day Center, 10212 E. Riverside Dr. Bothell, WA 98011.  Interment will be at Oak Grove Cemetery in Groveland, CA.
