Pet of the Week - August 15, 2011

Truly POWLittle Truly and her siblings arrived at Homeward Pet a month ago, skinny, scared and in need of some TLC.

Thanks to our wonderful network of volunteer foster families, Truly and kittens like her get to go into a home to get the nurturing and care that is so essential in the early weeks of their life.

This three month old was later returned to us from her "foster mom" as a plump, healthy and well socialized kitten just waiting to be adopted into her forever home.

She is spayed, microchipped and up to date on her vaccines. This fluffy bundle of energy could not be cuter and would be a great companion.

Her ideal home would have either another younger, playful kitty to hang out with or people around a lot to keep her amused.

Please come by Homeward Pet today to meet her!

Barkley_POWBarkley is a wonderful senior gentleman who was recently surrendered to Homeward Pet due to moving.

Now he’s looking to find a cozy home where he can enjoy his golden years.

He’s 11 years young and has lots of love to offer.

Barkley gets along with both cats and dogs, and would be a good pet for children over six years old, provided they can be respectful.

He loves to go for walks and ride in the car.

You’ll find that he is very loyal and devotedly follows his person around. He respects boundaries and he is careful to mind his manners.

He weighs 58 pounds, so he’s a good choice for someone who’s looking for a dog who isn’t too big. Other than some minor arthritis, he has no medical concerns and is in great health. He’s an active senior who will still enjoy a good play session at times.

Barkley is quiet in the home and will nap contentedly when his people are away.

He’d make a great companion for someone who is looking for a well behaved dog.

All he needs is a second chance, and he’s here at Homeward Pet ready to win your heart!

Homeward Pet will be able to help even more animals like Barkley, when we move into a new building this fall!

More than twice the size of the current facility, the new location will allow us to care for more animals and expand our veterinary clinic to provide more low-cost spay, neuter and microchip services to the community. Homeward Pet is funded entirely by private donations from generous supporters like you.

Please consider making a tax-deductible donation to the Homeward Pet New Building Fund at www.homewardpet.org today.

Smokey_and_Smudge_POWSmudge is a handsome coal black Persian mix about 3 years old. Smokey, his gray and white brother, catches everyone’s eye with his good looks as well. These long haired brothers came to Homeward Pet with very matted fur so we gave them a nice summer haircut. They look fabulous and certainly feel much better.

Smudge and Smokey would do best in a quieter home where they can curl up with their human and get lots of love (and lots of brushing which they do enjoy). They can’t imagine their lives without each other so they are hoping for a kind person to adopt them together. That way they can keep each other company when their human is away from them. These kitties are "people cats" and two cats will give you twice the love. Come on in to Homeward Pet and let Smokey and Smudge cause you to swoon!

Orson_POWMeet Orson! He’s a portly and personable fellow who is at Homeward Pet, patiently waiting for his new home.

Originally found as a stray in Eastern Washington, he’s happy to be safe and loved by his many volunteer friends who visit him daily. He’s a dog of few demands, and all he asks for is a loving home with a family who will cherish him for the rest of his days. Orson is a dog who enjoys his meals with great gusto and enthusiasm and perhaps a little too much at that! He currently tips the scales at a hefty 51 pounds, so he’s looking for an owner who can help him become trim and fit. He’s eager for daily outings and would like to find a walking companion.

Seven year-old Orson is a faithful and happy dog who can’t wait to please his new owner.

Although he has not met cats before, he enjoys the company of other dogs and everyone he meets. He would be best suited for a home with children who are over the age of six years old. Orson will be a popular dog with beagle enthusiasts especially, and he would encourage any interested parties to read up on his special breed.

He’s fairly quiet when compared to other beagles and when he’s not eating or sniffing around, his main focus is to soak up all the attention and affection he can.He is ready to make someone very happy and start enjoying the good life, like he deserves. Are you ready to be Orson’s one and only? He’s ready to greet you with a smile and win your heart in an instant. Please consider meeting him here at Homeward Pet and making him yours.Homeward Pet Adoption Center is located at 18800 Woodinville-Snohomish Rd, Woodinville.

Our shelter is open for visitors between noon and 6 p.m., Wednesday through Sunday. See all our adoptable dogs, cats, kittens and puppies at www.homewardpet.org.

POW2Marcel and Vaughn have come so very far since arriving at Homeward PeT last month. These handsome blue-eyed brothers came to us scared and dirty. We don’t think they had ever been brushed in their lives. Now, they just see the brush and they start purring, they love it so much! Their once matted fur is now silky and shiny.

They are under a year old and both have manageable health issues. Vaughn has a luxating patella (kneecap) and Marcel may be a little bit visually challenged. Neither disability slows them down – they love to play for hours on end. They are a bit bashful at first, however, once they get to know you, they are total lover boys. We do want them to be adopted together and have a special adoption rate for them. Come on in to Homeward Pet and meet these twins. they will steal your heart!

LIke all animals from Homeward Pet, Marcel and Vaughn have been neutered, but if you have a male cat or dog at home that hasn’t, help to control the number of kittens and puppies that are born, and may end up homeless, or worse, euthanized, by neutering your cat or dog. Homeward Pet is offering neutering every Wednesday for just $5 for a cat and $30 for a dog now through August 31, 2011. Call (425) 488-4444 ext 410 to make an appointment.
