With the post season drawing nigh, the Woodinville gymnastics team got into high gear with a meet victory over Newport, Garfield and Roosevelt on January 23rd at Woodinville High School.
"We’ve been working really hard the last couple of weeks," Woodinville coach Kim Smothermon said. "The girls weren’t pushing themselves as hard as we knew that they could. The seniors really picked it up the last couple of weeks to really push the rest of the team and push themselves to get this awesome win."
The Falcons scored 179.15 points, a fact that pleased Smothermon.
"This was our highest score of the season," she said. "We had set a goal of 177 and the girls surpassed that greatly. It was an awesome night."
The night’s festivities were punctuated by a tribute to each of the five seniors on the Falcon squad.
Afterward, the Woodinville Weekly asked Smothermon to say something about each of the graduating girls:
"Katherine Smith has really led this team and she just shines on floor and we’ve seen improvement on bars. She’s worked super hard to get this team up and running. She’s been a really great leader this whole year.
Candace Nelson is that funny girl on the team. She makes everyone smile and she brings up the attitude. She just creates that fun atmosphere on the team. She’s also amazing on the floor.
Abby Webb just joined the team last year. She’s improved so much and she’s been a blessing to this team. She never lets anything get her down.
Kate Bailey is a super hard worker. She never gives up and always pushing herself to do the best work that she can.
Tessa King has a super bubbly personality. She works super hard and is driven on every single event. She is always motivating herself. Tonight on beam she was talking to every single girl before they went, and that was huge part of why almost all of us stuck beam tonight."
