Thursday, Oct. 6, the CXC squad competed at a Cascade Conference meet at South Whidbey H.S.
This course is the same course that we will run in 3 weeks for the District Championship meet. So, it was a good opportunity to preview the course for our District squad. Some of our top runners went out a little conservative for the first mile but after that it was game on. Even with that restriction, almost all of our district returners from last year ran about the same time today that they did at last year’s district meet. In other words, we ran super!
The girls ran first and finished first in the team race. We showed good depth by putting eight girls in the top 11. We were led at the front by Alicia Krivanek (1st), Madi Shinn (2nd) and Lily Krueger (3rd).
Rounding out our scoring five were Kelly Hall (5th) and Mary Cate Babcock (6th).
The boys ran second and also finished first overall. We put nine boys in the top 19. We were led at the front by Ian Fay (1st), Grant Van Valkenburg (2nd) and Ben Benson (3rd). Rounding out our scoring five were Emmett Klaiber (8th) and Chase Bolin (10th).
We definitely put forth our best effort today. Lots of good running throughout.
Our Athletes of the Meet were Patrick McCabe, Briggs Hansen, Connor Eck, Cecelia Kiesow, Anna Christensen and Anna Parker. All six certainly ran their best races of the season. And with two weeks until the Conference Championship meet, now is as good a time as any for that to happen.
Next Thursday, we head to King’s for another Cascade meet. Our next big focus is the Cascade Conference Championships on Thursday, Oct. 20. We host that meet at the Blue Heron Golf Course in Carnation. Girls race at 4:00 and boys race at 4:45, just in case anyone wants to come watch.
