For 48 homeschooled drama students, May 4th marked the culmination of over 100 hours of hard work since the start of the school year in September. The High School Drama Class from Homeschool Connections in Woodinville is performing Broadway’s “The Little Mermaid” in Everett and all shows were sold out a month in advance.
The magical thing about doing drama in a homeschool setting is that you have a ton of parent support, with at least 40 parents giving between 20 to 100 hours of their time to making the production first-rate. This is evident by the beautiful costumes, professional sets, and quality production. At the core of this effort are some key professionals with Drama Director Marianni Groves, Musical Director Heather Kamer, and Choreographer Sherri Lewis. When teacher and Drama Director Marianni Groves was asked what she thinks makes this production special, she shared “the joy of witnessing the relationship between music and a young adult discovering their own voice - similar to Ariel’s journey.”
