On Friday, July 27 Secretary of State Kim Wyman certified Initiative 1639—an act to increase safety by way of stricter minimum requirements and mandates for individuals to possess automatic rifles—for the November General Election. After stricter gun laws failed to make it through the Legislature this year, this could tighten gun regulations in Washington state. The three primary changes would be raising the minimum age from 18 to 21 to buy a semi-automatic rifle, requiring more thorough background checks for those rifles, and implementing a strict requirement to how firearms will be stored.

Woodinville Fire and Rescue has been serving the Woodinville area since 1947. Today, the department covers approximately 30 square miles and 36,000 residents. Their mission is summed up with the three pillars of Prepare, Prevent, and Perform. With a vision of serving the community with compassion through the leadership of progressive professionals, the department has maintained its primary value of trust. Woodinville now has over 60 uniformed fire fighters in addition to commissioners and administrative personel. A position on the former had recently just become available.

Casting Set and Tickets On Sale For New Teatro ZinZanni Show

Teatro ZinZanni has announced complete casting for Hollywood & Vine, the first original production to be mounted at the company's all-new home, located at the former Red Hook Brewery in the heart of Woodinville wine country. This fall, as the company prepares to celebrate 20 years of presenting cirque, comedy, and cabaret in the Pacific Northwest, the dazzling new production will open, showcasing a cast of top circus talents from around the world. Tickets are currently available for groups of 12 or more including access to performances in December. Access to single tickets are available to the general public on August 16.

Evergreen State Fair Sets Special Times for Sensory Sensitive Individuals

The Evergreen State Fair in Monroe, WA will host the much anticipated second year of “Evergreen Morning of Dreams” on Wednesday, August 29th from 9:00-11:00 a.m. The event offers a calmer Fair setting for those with disabilities or special needs and their families. To help maintain a peaceful environment, the Fair will open one hour earlier to Evergreen Morning of Dreams guests than to the general public. Tickets are limited and will be available for sale on the Fair’s website: EvergreenFair.org.

Department of Licensing service disruptions expected August 26 to September 3

The Washington State Department of Licensing is preparing to launch a modernized driver licensing system at the end of August, and customers need to be aware of office closures and service disruptions. In order to transition from the old system to the new system, driver licensing offices will be closed Friday, August 31 through September 3. Vehicle licensing offices may be open, but unable to provide licensing services.
