TACOMA—The Falcons’ two representatives at Mat Classic XXXII had high hopes heading into state competition at the Tacoma Dome last weekend.

Senior Ben Smith and sophomore Simon Swan wrestled well on the initial whistle with each winning their first-round matches.

But both grapplers lost their next two matches as they ran into their toughest competition of the year and were eliminated from tournament action.

Smith and Swan, along with several other Falcons had outstanding individual seasons, and the team as a whole had one of its best in recent memory.

Woodinville crowned two district champions, qualified five wrestlers for Regionals, and two for State. The boys also placed fourth at the Everett Classic tournament, bringing home the first team trophy in a several years.

The Falcons fielded their first girls’ team, with many of them wrestling for the first time ever. The team’s combined for a 17-6 dual meet record. The boys were 13-6 and the girls finished undefeated at 4-0.

Woodinville also hosted its first ever tournament: The Lumber Yard Brawl.
