Red Wolves suffer heartbreaking home loss to Shorecrest

  • Written by Bob Kirkpatrick

Cedarcrest (6-7) was looking to snap the Scots (9-4) five-game win streak when Shorecrest came calling Friday night in Duvall. And the Red Wolves came oh so close to doing just that, but ended dropping the contest 76-69 in overtime.

The home team looked to be on its way to pulling off the upset as the Red Wolves held a 23-10 lead at the end of the first quarter. But the Scots turned the tide in the second eight minutes of action on the strength of a 20-8 run to draw with a point, 31-30 at intermission.

The team’s traded buckets throughout the third quarter and Cedarcrest maintained a slim 48-46 edge heading into the final minutes of regulation play.

Shorecrest posted 18 fourth-quarter points to the Red Wolves 16 and the squads were deadlocked 64-all as time expired.

Fate was on the Scots side in the extra period as boys from Shoreline outscored Cedarcrest 12-5 to come away with the win.

Four Red Wolves hit for double figures, led by Kian Pegueros-Warren who knocked down 22 points. Nicolo Cammarano added 14, Shawn Deming chipped in 12, and Brennan Mallot finished with 11.

Cedarcrest traveled to Lynnwood Monday to take on the Royals, but the results of the game were not available before the paper went to press. Win or lose the Red Wolves have qualified for postseason play which got underway Feb. 13.
