Welcome to another season of Cedarcrest Cross Country. Last Wednesday, the CXC squad competed at the Conference Preview. This meet features all of the teams (8 total) in the Conference running a 3000m course on the same site of the Conference Championships that occur in late October.
This race gives us a good job at ourselves as well as the other teams plus the distance allows us to “run fast” without having to run another 2000m. When it was over, both teams raced very well. We showed some good running up front as well as good depth. The meet was considered a jamboree so team scores weren’t kept.
In the girls race, our top five finishers were Alicia Krivanek – 2nd, Madi Shinn – 6th, Lily Krueger – 7th, Mary Cate Babcock – 10th and Anna Christensen – 12th. Almost half of the first 12? Plus 7 in the top 20 and 10 in the top 25? That’s good running.
In the boys race, our top five finishers were Ian Fay – 3rd, Cameron Hammontree – 5th, Ben Benson – 6th, Vincent Dams – 8th and Gunnar Schultz – 11th. Once again, almost half of first 12? Plus 8 in the top 20 and 9 in the top 25? Once again, that’s good running.
Our athletes of the meet were Caleb Chung, Josh Klingsheim, Patrick McCabe, Anna Christensen and Katie Bell. Caleb, Josh and Anna were all running their first race for CXC and each ran very well. Both Caleb and Anna were the highest placing freshmen for our school and for all the schools.
Patrick and Katie all ran CXC last year and showed vast improvement over their time in last year’s Preview. Patrick ran 52 seconds faster than last year and Katie ran 3:23 faster than last year.
