Do you carry your CERT kit in your car?

  • Written by Valley View Staff

Kathy Brasch is trained as a member of the Carnation-Duvall Community Emergency Response Team and she also has completed the Traffic and Crowd Management training module.

Kathy has had the opportunity twice to help direct traffic at incidents she drove up on, once just the other night.
She approached the first responders, told them her background and asked if she could assist with traffic management. In both cases they did not have anyone to take on that role and welcomed her help.

Kathy got out her CERT vest, bump helmet and flashlight, positioned herself where they had requested and helped out for several hours.

Don’t have a CERT kit?  Carnation-Duvall Citizen Corps is offering a CERT class starting September 11. Visit www.cdccc.us, print out a copy of the registration form and send it in with your donation.  You will get a CERT kit when you participate in the class.

In 20 hours spread out over eight Monday evenings, you will learn about disasters, how to size up a structure, put out a small fire, do light search and rescue, triage survivors and administer disaster medical aid.

After CERT training you also become eligible to take the four-hour FEMA Traffic and Crowd Management course.
Help Kathy make your community safer, stronger and better prepared.
