Longtime resident of Carnation, Howard Miller, 97, born 2/29/16 in Kenosha, Wisc. to Fannie and Henry Miller, passed away peacefully on Sept. 23.
A graduate of Garfield High School in Seattle, he married the love of his life, Marion Freedman on Nov. 11, 1939 and they enjoyed nearly 50 years together until her death on November 1, 1989.
They operated Miller’s Dry Goods in Carnation from 1938-1983. Howard was a local high school sports fan and wrote about youth sports for the local paper for years. The athletic field at Tolt Middle School is named in honor of Howard.
Howard is survived by his daughter Marilyn Miller and son Martin (wife Kathy Morse-Miller) three wonderful granddaughters: Haylee, Alyssa, Keena, and his very dear siblings: Ralph, Phyllis Danz and Lorraine Trotsky and their families.
Howard was an active member of the American Legion Post #199 for over 60 years and with Marion participated in many other area organizations. A celebration of his life was held at the Sno-Valley Senior Center.
