Washington University junior forward Melissa Gilkey (Woodinville) of the No. 2-ranked women’s basketball team received UAA Women’s Basketball Athlete of the Week honors for the first time this season and for the fourth time in her career after leading Washington U. to the team title at the 13th annual McWilliams Classic Friday-Saturday in St. Louis. She was named the Most Valuable Player of the tournament after posting double-doubles in both of the Bears’ wins. Gilkey was 5-of-7 from the field and a perfect 7-of-7 from the free-throw line to finish with 17 points and 12 rebounds in a 77-53 win over Augustana College Friday. She followed that with 15 points and 11 rebounds to lead Washington U. to a 67-59 win over No. 24 Trinity University (Texas) in the championship game Saturday. Washington University is located in St. Louis, Mo.

Kyle Wasson of Woodinville recently performed in the annual St. Olaf College Christmas Festival in Northfield, Minn. Wasson is a member of the St. Olaf Orchestra. He is a performance major. Wasson is the son of Steven and Stephanie Wasson and is a graduate of Redmond High School.
